On 13 November, we attended the panel "Being a human rights defender in 2018" opening the Human Rights Weeks at the University of Geneva. 2018 is a special year as it marks the 20th anniversary of the UN Declaration on human rights defenders and the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Therefore, the panel gathered together experts to address questions such as who are the human rights defenders and the challenges they face in 2018, in particular the role and impact of digital technologies in relation to human rights defenders and civic space.#StandUp4HumanRights Hashtag
As the event took place at a higher educational institution with the presence of students, we decided to ask a question on role of youth in relation of human rights defenders, to which the panellists answered that the voice and competences of young people are vital to bring new perspectives on human rights. And how do you see the role of young boys and girls in relation of human rights defenders?
