Geneva is home to countless international organizations and various UN organizations. The meeting of different surrounding organizations is inevitable given its importance. Third sector institutions of academic character, religious character, etc. work for peace, the defense of human rights and collective well-being.
The Geneva Peace Week is a meeting that allows the cooperation of various entities for the construction and consolidation of peace in the world, by organizing various meetings and events related to the issues on peace such as the role of women , disarmament, child abuse, the contribution of religions, terrorism, among others.
The main program was developed in collaboration with the UNOG, the founding members of the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform (CCDP, GCSP, Interpeace, QUNO), organizations housed in the Maison de la Paix and the University of Geneva.
This year’s Geneva Peace Week contains 41 events in the vicinity of the United Nations. The 50 organizations co-responsible for these events participated in a public call to provide elements of values to the central theme of the main program. Among the organisations are the International Miraism Association and the Freedom of Religion International Center who will be carrying out a Forum on Religion and Peacebuilding, on the 20th of November 2015, in Room XXIII of the Palace of the United Nations.
This event will feature the participation of important personalities in the field such as Professor Kevin Clements, Chair and Director of The National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Otago (Dunedin, NZ), and visiting professor in Conflict Analysis and Resolution, University of Kent (Canterbury), Dr. Paolo Lorenzo Gamba, former counselor at the EU Commision in relation to faith based organizations, Mr. Ricardo Espinoza, executive director of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue, Professor Khider Domle, Peacebuilding and Minority expert and Media Director of the University od Duhok (Iraq), Carlos A. Baena, Former Senator of Colombia and Founder of the Freedom of Religion International Center, and Michael Mutzner, Secretary General of the Swiss Evangelical Alliance and WEA Permanent representative to the UN in Geneva.
